Hidden camera detector — app reviews 2026

Independent reviews of every major hidden camera detector app, tested in our lab against real concealed cameras.

A note on the ratings

Signal accuracy is how quickly and correctly each app identifies a wireless transmitter in a controlled room. Simplicity counts the number of taps between opening the app and reading a scan result. Free tier means core scanning works without payment. Scores reflect performance on iPhone 15 with a mix of Wi-Fi camera, BLE recorder and smart-plug targets — not features claimed on the App Store listing.

How we tested

Every app in this table was downloaded from the App Store and run against the same test rig: three consumer-grade wireless surveillance devices (a Wi-Fi nanny camera, a Bluetooth pen recorder, a smart-plug with hidden mic) placed at randomised locations in a 4 × 4 m room. Each app was given three sweeps per device; we recorded time-to-first-flag and whether the app correctly identified the manufacturer.

Scores are weighted as follows: signal accuracy 45%, simplicity 25%, feature depth 20%, free-tier value 10%. False positives are reported separately and cap a perfect 10. Ratings and prices were verified against the App Store just before publication. We are not paid by any of the apps reviewed.

This review is refreshed each quarter. The next update is scheduled for spring.

FAQ

Common questions

Does SpySense need any special hardware?

No extra hardware. SpySense uses the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios already built into your iPhone. If your phone can join Wi-Fi, it can scan.

Do I need to create an account?

Nope. Download the app and start scanning within a minute. There is no signup wall, no email confirmation, no profile to fill out.

What if a suspicious device is actually the smart TV?

Devices are labelled with their manufacturer where possible. Tap any flagged device to see hints — for example, a device tagged “Samsung TV” on a hotel LAN is almost certainly the room TV, while an unlabelled anonymous transmitter facing the bed deserves a closer look.

Can SpySense find cameras that don’t transmit?

SpySense specialises in wireless detection. Purely local recording devices with no transmission are not detectable through radio signals — for those, a manual visual inspection is still the right approach (we have a full guide in the blog).

Is the free plan really free?

Yes. Core scanning is available without any payment. The Premium tier just unlocks history, alerts and priority analysis for repeat users.
